A cloudy Lochnagar.

14th February 2024

A cloudy day on the hill but not particularly unpleasant. Unfortunately, tomorrow will see the freezing level lift above the summits with rain at all levels. This may be a reasonable amount on hills South of the Dee. Areas of poor stability will develop, particularly round Corrie rims and gully exits.

Rivers and burns will rise with crossings awkward. The main track to Lochnagar comes to mind.

Hopefully things will start to settle later in the day.

Cloudbase on Lochnagar was around 900 metres. Not a lot to see above this level. Plenty of grouse around, probably enjoying the light winds!

Good snow cover above 900 metres.

Pockets of windslab are fairly localised.
