Wild and Windy!

6th April 2024

Super windy today with an average wind speed around 60mph at 930m , gusting 75mph. Even at 400m the gusts were knocking you sideways. A significant thaw was taking place with the air temperature up to plus 7 degrees centigrade at 900m and 14 to 15 degrees in the glen. The snow is soft and wet and has continued to consolidate. The rate of thaw will slow tomorrow as the freezing level lowers to around 1100m, with some light snow forecast for the highest summits. Staying very windy though.

No mountain shots today – all the photos were taken down in Glen Muick

River Muick pumping water through the falls – Lots of melt water coming off the hills.

It’s back! Rotary screw trap for counting and measuring salmon smolts – see notes below

Stormy conditions on Loch Muick

Poor viz and strong winds even at 400m today.
