A great day to start New Year!

1st January 2024

A stunning day, little wind but very cold with quite a lot of ice underfoot at lower levels. Skied from roadside, initially very firm but becoming softer underfoot with altitude.

Firm and icy cover from roadside up to 850 metres. Carn an Tuirc in the background.

A carpet of surface hoar at higher levels. Although poorly bonded it was not particularly deep however, this may change as this layer is redistributed into sheltered locations and covered with new snowfall. A good reason to read the avalanche reports!

The soft surface layers on a hard surface made for good ski conditions today.

Other than the surface layers the snowpack has been consolidating. Sam at the pit site with Mayer and Driesh in the background.

Great cover over the higher plateau areas. Teams heading to Cairn o Claise.

Views were excellent today. Beinn a Bhuird looking particularly white.
