A Wintry landscape.

15th December 2022

First day of the season for the South Cairngorm team and nice to have some snow to report on! Currently there is dry powdery snow on most aspects but with some pretty feisty weather due over the weekend this is likely to change.

After last nights winds Southerly aspects were holding the most snow. Glenshee lower pistes were running with ski tourers heading higher.  Nice tracks on Carn Aosta.

Most of the tops were in cloud by early afternoon but there were quite a few people out touring early on.

A mountain hare with avalanche debris on a South aspect at 900 metres. This avalanche happened overnight.

Rogue checking out the debris. Deeper snow is restricted to lee locations with many areas, like the upper left part of this photo, scoured and shallow.
