Lochnagar.

29th January 2019

A visit to Lochnagar today.

Some snow has been blown around last night leaving a few deep drifts in places otherwise things are slowly settling down.

Great for skinny skis in the forests at the moment but there is not great coverage higher up after the recent strong winds.

A nice drive through the forest but there are great conditions for skinny skis.

Ben Avon showing us the best aspects.

Beinn a Bhuird corries looking good in the sun.

GelderShiel and Lochnagar. There is probably more snow in the glens than up on the hill.

Good ice in the False Corrie.

The Stuic Buttress. The classic route goes up the crest of the buttress.

The Black Spout right-hand finish. All the snow looks much the same but – right in the picture – hard and icy – centre some new snow from last night – left (where my probe is) around a metre of snow from Sunday.

Black Spout Pinnacle and the crags. Despite being lean mixed climbing likely to be in reasonable condition.

Climber in Raeburn’s Gully. Good effort.

Cloudy with a touch of snow around lunchtime.
