Wet…….

18th December 2018

As forecasted it was a very wet and windy day on the hill.

Recent snow was very hard before this thaw and it wasn’t a complete surprise to find colder drier snow within deeper deposits this morning. However even these accumulations are becoming soft and saturated. Elsewhere, there has been significant snow loss, many open slopes and ridges are now snow free.

By mid afternoon most burns and rivers were in spate.

There are some deep areas of snow hanging on but there is also plenty of saturated snow as well.

Rivers and burns were becoming full by mid morning.

The River Claunie breaking its banks.

Full spate through Braemar by mid afternoon.
