Big Toys!

15th February 2018

The boys had to get their big toys out today to get the A93 open. Big drifts on both sides of the pass to clear. The wind is still blowing hard up there and snow is drifting back onto the road again.

We’ve had a little bit of new snow but it’s the wind that is doing the damage today with quite heavy drifting going on… The snow remains unstable taking very little additional load to fail. Travel in drifted areas is extremely strenuous on foot – snow shoes or skis would make life a lot easier – or just make sure that there are a whole crowd of people ahead of you to trail break!

Very little new snow forecast – just the odd light shower – however the winds remain strong so some redistribution will occur.

The big boy! The cutter snow blower was needed to clear the deep drifts on the A93

His buddy in action…this was why the road was closed folks. It really was badly snowed in…

Snow shoes or skis will definitely make mountain travel easier at the moment. On foot was a non-starter even at 500m this morning.

Looking North along a closed A93 this morning. These slopes have had very strong Southerly winds across them.
