Isolated snow showers…

2nd April 2013

Cloudier today with the odd flake of snow. Isolated light snow showers forecast for tomorrow.

The facetted crystals that all areas have been following closely over the past week are well developed and very easy shears were produced in the snowpack today. Cracks appeared underfoot and the top firm windslab layer failed easily on a fragile crystal layer underneath. Don’t get caught out…you can feel it underfoot or with your axe…Even better, do a quick pit – you will soon find a soft layer comprising of sugar-like crystals, sandwiched between firmer layers.
