Ski Touring

26th January 2013

Headed up to Carn an Tuirc today. It was good to see other tourers and even someone in snowshoes. Conditions were perfect for a ski tour. The White Mounth and main Cairngorms snow cover has benefited massively from the recent snow and change of wind direction.
The local policeman reported seeing two stags set of a small avalanche in a small sheltered area next to the A93 this morning (before the road was open).  It’s a place we’ve seen this happen before and will put it on the database. Dry and clear tomorrow but it’s due to be very windy, cue the heavy drifting.
Me and my shadow.
Col showing signs of being stripped out in last nights winds.

In some locations new shallow windslab easily sheared.
