Overnight Thaw

30th December 2012

Persistent drifting today meant that the camera didn’t come out. Strong winds and snow showers meant that deposits were blowing all day. Windslab has formed pretty rapidly in sheltered locations and unfortunately we are due a thaw overnight and into tomorrow morning. See full report for further details. Avalanche activity is likely and newly formed cornices will be prone to collapse. Luckily it is due to get colder later on in the afternoon with a few snow showers blowing in. Plenty of options available, just take the conditions into account when planning your day.
