Snow stability.

4th February 2009

Well we did get more snow and the winds eased up……at last! Yesterday’s snow is starting to consolidate but the recent stuff was pretty unstable. There were many places on steeper terrain that cracks would appear at your feet. Managed to trigger a 15 meter wide slab which was 20 cm deep.

Pic: Cracks at your feet, some would shoot out for a few metres.

On your ski’s you can travel from thigh deep snow to very hard ice very quickly!
The on piste skiing is very good and worth the effort. Coupled with the good climbing it’s well worth a trip to the area now.
