It’s the holidays!

15th February 2009

Cover breaking through a little at lower elevations.

It was fantastic to see so many people in the area today. Half -term school holidays have brought the crowds out in large numbers. Obviously the Glenshee Ski Area was busy as it has such good cover. Because so many lifts were running, there was very little hanging around and lots of skiing to be done. All the usual car parks in Glen Clunie were in use with walkers and lots of ski mountaineers heading for the hills. The off-piste skiing was a little “interesting” as the light was a bit flat at times and the cover is changeable with areas of ice frequently present as well as the deeper snow, but hey I’m not complaining. It is great to have such good conditions.
Unfortunately it does look like the earlier half of the week will be milder with the freezing level rising to 2300 metres tonight. This will start to thaw the snow but there is a reasonable depth present and it has had a number of days to consolidate so it won’t disappear overnight! So get out and enjoy it while it’s there – but don’t hang around under any cornices as we are expecting some of them to give into gravity.
