Ice

30th January 2009

It was not the nicest of days today. Staggered up to the Glas Maol plateau, no sign of any new snow, it just rained. However not all bad news, everywhere was covered in ice as the rain froze when it hit the ground, although on descent I noticed it is starting to thaw. The snow has an ice crust, which appears to be thinnest around the corrie rims but the snow stability has improved.

Due to be very windy on Saturday with freezing level above the summits. Cornices will be prone to collapse.

It is due to get cold next week hopefully Lochnagar should step up another gear.
