Wet and Windy!

26th December 2007

Cloudy, wet and windy – wasn’t even worth getting the camera out today, folks! There has been some limited snowfall overnight but it is thawing fast. Generally just a couple of centimetres of fresh snow are present, but occasionally there is a pocket of around 10cm in depth. The water ice that has been present underfoot is now starting to thaw. So watch out for what look like shallow puddles but are really large areas of water ice with just a covering of water on them. You land on your rear and get wet at the same time!
It’s staying fairly windy tomorrow but it should be a bit drier with just the occasional shower forecast. Some of the lower grade gullies are holding snow ice, but only at the higher elevations so expect a lot of boulder hopping to get to them.
