Snow Holes

28th December 2007

Only a few centimetres of new snow fell last night and unfortunately it was thawing fairly rapidly today. The ground is starting to become much softer and wetter and the widespread water ice is thawing. Pretty thick mist on the hill today so not much of a photo opportunity.

We did find a couple of snow holes, but as you can see by their size, not built by humans! Unfortunately for the industrious critters that built them, we also found fox prints around them as well. However no blood so it looks like they lived to dig another snow hole!

Heavy snow showers have been forecast for a time this evening so we live in hope. Much colder temperatures have also been forecast, so we are expecting the remaining snow to firm up.
