Weather!

25th December 2006

This great weather just keeps coming, I suppose it helps make up for the lack of snow.
In our area conditions are about the same all round. Lochnagar only has Black Spout and Central gully just about complete, the buttresses are black including the Southern Corrie. It was +7.5 in the Corrie today. The snow is very hard and there are plenty rocks showing.
Generally the White Mounth has very little snow, even Corrie Kander has nothing of note.
Across the water in the main Cairngorms Corrie Sputen Dearg has some easier gullies complete but again the buttresses are black. It looks like Braeriach is holding the most snow but I haven’t visited it yet.
It would appear there is more ice in the valleys than on the hills and certainly plenty of ice has been forming in the Dee.
Hill conditions have been perfect for walking, mountain running and biking, you just have to avoid the odd ice patch.

Paul Noble.
