Lochnagar

9th March 2019

Apologies for any blurry photos – at times it was difficult to stay upright let alone take clear shots – pretty strong and gusty winds today. Very cold as well with a significant windchill on exposed skin. Great to see Lochnagar back in winter mode – a major transformation from last week’s photos. There’s a fair bit of snow around the tops of the gullies with some small cornices forming – not particularly stable where it overlies old snow-ice on steeper ground…. Staying cold with some light snow showers tomorrow.

Lochnagar back in full winter mode

Very snowy finishes to some of the Lochnagar Gullies

Black Spout Left Hand now has a much steeper finish than at any other point this winter

Right Hand Black Spout is now complete and has a steeper, more snowy finish than previously.

Full snow cover on the plateau. Walker making their way to the summit of Cac Carn Beag (1156m)

Looking over The Stuic to the main Cairngorms

Windslab cracking and sliding under body weight

A very definite snow line. Looking over Ripe Hill to Beinn a’Bhuird and Ben Avon
