No Change Just Yet

17th February 2008

Typical snow cover at 900 metres on South aspects

Snow cover on N aspects/SW aspects

Another fine day today – a bit colder and windier than it has been but still amazing conditions for February. Once again there were a large number of walkers out and about taking advantage of the clear weather. As it was a bit colder the remaining snow has stayed firm today with only slight softening on South aspects. North aspects remain very firm and crampons are essential on steeper ground – there are some very rocky runouts at present.

There will be little change tomorrow and it looks like being another dry day with lighter winds than today – so if you can get another day off….go for it. It can’t stay like this forever and it is going to be really hard to go back to wet and windy! Just enjoy it while you can…
