Winds.

27th December 2007

The area was fairly blasted last night with winds of 107mph on The Cairnwell (933 metres) and 119mph on Cairngorm (1245 metres). It was also wet with high amounts of rain falling. We have suffered some ice loss with the snow thawing as well. Fortunately it had eased by the time we went up the hill, in fact it was fairly plesant only a few showers of hail and wet snow.

Hopefully tonights forecasted snow will add somthing.

The picture is of Corrie Fionn around 1200metres, how sad. Probably gives you an idea how little snow is on the White Mounth.
Having said that, Lochnagar’s easier gullies still have snow in them, the runouts are short though. The tracks are clear for cycling in to the Cairngorms as well.
Paul.
