Snow time!

18th January 2007

Well we had a decent amount of snow overnight down to Braemar. Some showers until lunchtime but not any winds until later in the afternoon.
We decided to ski to the Hutchinson hut at Corie Etchachan from Derry lodge, probably a bit too keen really but wanted to get the skis on. Worked well until after Derry flats, walked the rest. Needs a bit wind to fill the path in and lacks a good base in places. I had a good ski out but there was a bit of cursing going on behind.
As the snow arrived from the SW there looks to be a bit more on the White Mounth, it’s all dry snow and waiting on some wind to blow it about a bit. It was thawing at valley level.
Crag is as you’d expect, dry and snowy but still in need of more snow and thaw/freeze cycles.
Pics are Black Grouse at Derry Lodge, Stags in the woods, first tracks to Linn o dee and Corrie Etchachan.
