A wet start.

Covid-19

The Scottish Avalanche Information Service would recommend that those wishing to enjoy the winter mountains refer to Mountaineering Scotland and Scottish Government advice regarding Covid-19 and outdoor activities.

Hello and welcome back to the 2020-21 season.

The BBC had published last years SAIS review this morning. Looking back at the picture of Kenny ski touring on Glas Maol fired me up, however it wasn’t quite the same conditions today!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-55258087

Very wet overnight with the snow thawing at all levels. Still plenty snow around higher up, be warned, its hard work, expect to be slower than normal. Mixed forecasts over the next few days, time will tell! It was very claggy above 700 metres, I didn’t get any meaningful pictures.

Clearing a little in the afternoon. Lower snow is mostly gone, better above 900 metres. Hill burns were flowing well.

The Garbh Allt waterfall in full flow.

Hi Folks. Good to have your invaluable service back following last season’s abrupt halt to winter fun. Hope to bump into you on the hill and fingers crossed for this season! Always hopeful. 🙂
