Getting colder…

After another fairly mild day, the freezing level is currently dropping quite quickly. It will fluctuate around the 400 metre level for the next 24 hours. Surface layers of the wet snow are going to firm up and with time will become icy. Unfortunately the situation looks fairly unsettled and it will be getting warmer again.
Despite the mostly patchy cover, wind sheltered locations are holding deeper snow.
Cloud base around 1000 metres on the West aspect of Lochnagar.
Slightly brighter conditions out to the East…
Snow melt continued today, with plenty of water around.
