Chilly!
25th February 2023
There was a cold North wind blowing today and you really didn’t want to leave any skin exposed for too long! Yesterday’s snow was being blown around but rather than drifting in one direction it was getting picked up into ‘Snow Devils’ that whirled their way around the slopes. It feels much more wintery above 900 metres now after yesterday’s snow showers. The old snow is super firm and there is water-ice on the paths and tracks at lower levels – Some of this is lurking under a thin covering of snow – just waiting for an unsuspecting victim to slide on (walking poles saved the day a couple of time today!)
The winds are set to reduce significantly by tomorrow afternoon, so while it will be staying cold with a 500 to 600 metre freezing level, it shouldn’t feel quite as cold as today.
