More of the same

6th February 2026

Another day of challenging conditions in the mountains.

Thankfully the roads to Glenshee ski area were open, despite falling snow overnight and drifting down to lower levels.

Below 900 metres moderately bonded windslab continues to slowly consolidate. Above this elevation there continues to be significant drifting, colder temperatures and deposits of poorly bonded windslab with associated cornice hazard. A spike in temperature early afternoon tomorrow will lead to period of increased instability. (see report for more detail).

On the plus side if the temperature continues to fluctuate over the next few days  it will really help stability in the long term.

(Above) Drifting at around 500 metres.

(Above) Some digging needed to access this ski hut on a westerly aspect at around 800 metres.

(Above) Rime ice at around 900 metres pointing into the prevailing easterly direction of the wind.

(Above) Temperature at 900 metres.
