Lighter winds

7th February 2026

Thankfully some lighter winds today. There was even a brief glimpse of the sun during the afternoon. With the improved visibility it was very noticeable how much snow has drifted onto the west aspects compared to the east.

All change again for tomorrow, with quite persistent rain forecast, heaviest being overnight and into the morning.  The snow will become wet and any pre existing instabilities will be weakened further, particularly on steep terrain above 900 metres on South-West through West to North aspects, cornices will be heavy and prone to collapse.

A brief but welcome sight during the afternoon.

Continuing signs of snowpack instabilities, here at 900 metres on a westerly aspect.
