Its tricky!

17th February 2026

It was all change on the hill as last night’s storm force winds stripped snow from Northerly aspects and distributed it onto the South sides. There was a number of weak layers developed within the deeper deposits. Some of these areas were bridged by a strong wind packed surface layer……….and some weren’t!

Great skiing if you chased these areas but there were two skier triggered and one natural avalanche  today on various Southerly aspects. All class 1 with no injuries.

Otherwise it’s very hard and icy out there, crampons very useful on the steep stuff.

A walker on Glas Maol. Wind blasted locations are very icy.

Skiers getting ready for a descent.

Snow in the foreground semi stripped and pushed further down the hill. 3 hares enjoying the sun and shelter from the winds.

A skier triggered avalanche on the slopes of Cairn o Claise.

A view to the right of the slide. The skier remotely triggered this slide, his tracks just to right.
