The Mountain Rescue Committee of Scotland ran the level 3 course avalanche rescue training course at Braemar this weekend. It was a full programme with excellent talks and field exercises. Some newly researched (‘Heavy’ Whalley) avalanche statistics were presented that prompted good discussion and reinforced the seriousness of the consequences of being caught in an avalanche in Scotland. Recent developments in treatment of hypothermia were described by Dr Steve Teale and the role of rescuers was colourfully described by Daz Steatham. A strongly Yorkshire/El Capitan flavoured show was given by Andy Kirkpatrick.
A full scale rescue scenario was done on Sunday – including Tally SARDA and other search dogs.
