After the thaw…..

Not a bad day today – dry with moderate winds and a variable could base. Soft wet snow underfoot, improving with altitude. The freezing level was above the summits overnight and there has been a fair bit of snow loss in the past 24 hour period – The cover is fairly limited below 800 metres and thin or patchy in exposed locations or plateau areas. Still plenty of depth in wind sheltered locations. It’s due to be wet and mild again this evening but the freezing level is due to lower down to 800 metres in the early hours so eventually the snow will become firm and icy. Lots of boulders showing through at the moment – so don’t get caught out with a slip or trip….
Not great for photos today – I was either in the cloud or getting buffeted in the wind. They give the general idea though…
