Lochnagar

12th March 2020

Wasn’t sure I’d see anything on Lochnagar today but there was occasional breaks in the clouds. Still very snowy, however the older snow is very firm. The crag apron is filled in with a covering of new snow, there are deep new deposits in places and a number of spindrift avalanches were observed in the gullies. Some exits may be interesting. Debris in the Corrie was from the recent mild period. There is still plenty of reasonable size cornices in place.

Friday will see a change in the wind direction, it’s likely some of the gullies will retain unstable deposits around the rim but other routes may benefit from this change.

Not a great day for pics but climbers may appreciate these.

South Sector nearly to Red Spout. After this much less snow.
