2020…

1st January 2020

Great to have a view today – even if the cloud threatened to push in a few times. Bitter cold wind though – extra encouragement to keep moving and burn off the festive calories…! It’s fast going at the moment with the soft, wet ground having frozen up pretty well – watch out for water-ice on the paths though.

Tomorrow doesn’t look particularly pleasant with rain in the forecast and gale force winds. Apologies if any of today’s photos are a little blurry – It was hard to stay still in the blustery wind.

The mighty Creag an Dubh Loch – one of the finest mountain cliffs in Scotland. Home to nearly 70 Extreme routes – many with multiple stars. In winter, Labyrinth Direct 300m VII, 6 **** is the one to bag! It’s got a long way to go at the moment….

Top of left hand branch Black Spout, with rocks poking through. At least the exit angle is easier now.

Top of right hand branch Black Spout is now well broken….(slight understatement !)

Beautiful (if a little chilly) conditions on Cac Carn Beag (1165m), Lochnagar.

Looking across to The Stuic from the SW slopes of Lochnagar. Typical snow patches on high N to E facing corries.

Water-ice on paths and tracks at the moment….Watch your step!

Bands of cloud rolled in at times pushed on by the strong SW winds
