Lochnagar

1st March 2019

Quite a pleasant day – the cloud occasionally dropped to summit level but then it would lift and break to let a bit of sun through. The anomalous temperatures this week have done damage to the remaining snow and that stalwart route, Black Spout RH finish finally has a break in it from the narrows up. I was really lucky to watch a Peregrine Falcon flying around the corrie beneath me as I sat on the top of the West Buttress. The weather looks like it is set to turn back to normal from this weekend with lower temperatures and active systems pushing through. (Note to self: Repack Winter rucksack!)

Lochngar cliffs on 1st March…!    Raeburn’s Gully just about holding in there…

View across to The Stuic and Loch nan Eun from Cac Carn Beag

View through the pinnacles on West buttress to Meikle Pap and Conachcraig (865m).

Summit to summit. Cac Carn Beag to Cac Carn Mor.

Sadly Black Spout right hand finish now has a break in it.

Black Spout Pinnacle

Steps up Black Spout LH finish have caught vegetation blown from the plateau.

See-saw anyone…? Thought not !
