Winter continues….

2nd April 2026

Probably the takeaways from today are – still very much Winter on the hills and the patchy snow is very icy at the moment. Realistically you’ll need either crampons or spikes to get up/down any slope covered in old snow.

Perhaps a factor in what you do is the weather forecast. It’s poor for Easter weekend with snowfall, rain and strong winds tonight and Friday, followed by Storm Dave behind that. Fortunately I’m off at the weekend, I’ve leave that to Sam!

Looking towards Carn an Tuirc and Cairn o Claise. Although there is quite extensive snow patches left unfortunately much of the plateau is broken.

All old snow is very hard with ice in many locations above 800 metres.

Across to Glas Tulaichean (right) with tops of Beinn A Ghlo.

Beinn a Bhuird.

Over the West Wall on the ski area. Very deep snow persists around some aspects from the snowfall in Jan/Feb.

Looking over to Cairn Toul (left) then Braeriach and Ben Macdui (right).
