Staying Wintery
28th March 2026
This Winter just keeps giving…. Bitterly cold windchill today and some very punchy snow showers pushing through the area – more so in the West and North, with less pushing right across to Lochnagar and the White Mounth.
North of the River Dee, the weather ranged from blue sky and sunshine through to menacing grey skies and squally snow showers. Gale force winds made walking conditions difficult and the wind chill on exposed skin was severe. Due to the winds, many areas have very shallow snow with drifts only forming in the most wind sheltered locations. Here though depth has accumulated and stability is poor.
An interesting weather forecast for the next 24 hours with further snowfall on gale force winds but with a brief spike in the freezing level, so it will actually rain at most elevations tomorrow morning for a time, with snow on the highest summits only. Given the forecast, it’s unlikely to a pleasant day in the mountains. Careful route choice required….
