Becoming colder.

26th February 2026

A cloudy day with light rain at times. Very windy higher up. Carn Crom above Derry Lodge was high enough today, there wasn’t much to see above 900 metres.

Not quite a march back into Winter but tomorrow becoming a bit cooler with freezing level dropping to around 800 by late afternoon. Touch of snow as well. Hopefully this will slow the thaw rate down, the rivers were full today, crossing burns would be tricky.

Becoming patchy out there, skiers will be carrying to snow, bikers will be happy!

Looking down Glen Lui in Braemar direction. Quite a lot of snow loss around this level.

Hitting the snow above 800 metres. This is an Easterly aspect.

Looking past Carn a Mhaim towards snow above Glen Geusachan.

Bonus picture from Lochnagar courtesy of Donald. Some recent chunks of cornice falling from the North-West aspects in the corrie. Most cornices have collapsed but there are still some remnants left to go.
