Wet and thawing

8th February 2026

Despite a day of heavy rain there were still some good snow sports to be had at Glenshee.

The thawing conditions allowed soft grippy snow on the piste. Off piste things were much more variable with wet snow to above the summits and patches of water ice here and there.

Cairnwell weather station recorded 2 degrees at around 8am this morning. The freezing level is lowering only slightly tomorrow so the thaw continues, particularly at lower elevations. Cornice collapse will be an ongoing hazard in these conditions. (see report for more info).

Fun pistes, poor viz.

Snowmelt

Bare hillsides showing in places as the shallower snow begins to thaw.
