End of Season

6th April 2025

This is the last blog of the 2024/2025 season. It’s been a different sort of winter where you had to get out and grab it when it was here. The use of ‘No Hazard’ has become more common place across the 6 forecast areas. Having looked at the forecast archive, we definitely had an elevated percentage of Category Low days this season, very few Considerables and no Highs.  I’ve had a look through the blog photos and pulled a handful out to give us a reminder of the season…

We couldn’t operate as we do without help with access from Balmoral Estate, Mar Lodge Estate and the Glenshee Ski Centre – so a huge thank you to them. Police Scotland and Braemar Mountain Rescue Teams are great supporters of the service. This support makes a huge difference to how we work, and we are very grateful for it. Mountain Equipment has continued to support the service for many years and we are so lucky to be able to wear their clothing in the hills – it really does make all the difference on a ‘bad’ day! Thanks is also due to Mountain Sports, Garmin and definitely last but not least the Met Office who are there for us right through the season producing highly detailed forecasts which they take the time to personalise for each of the six forecast areas. Thanks Everyone – Much appreciated!
