Another Blue Sky Day

5th April 2025

After a cold start with an overnight frost it was another sunny day with cool Northerly, veering Easterly winds. If you found a sunny spot that was out of the wind it was warm and very relaxing to just sit and enjoy the view.

South of the Dee we have very little snow left and the patches at Lochnagar are more like late Spring conditions rather than the start of April. Coire nan Clach,  Beinn a’Bhuird has longer runs of snow, but even this is starting to diminish now during this amazing run of sunny weather. The snow patches are firming up overnight as the temperature drops right down under the clear skies. It softens pretty quickly in direct sunlight but remains firm in shady locations.

More good weather for tomorrow, so get out there and enjoy yourselves.

Lochnagar cliffs – looks more like very late Spring rather than early April.

Limited snow in the Black Spout.

A busy day on Lochnagar with a steady stream of walkers and runners heading up ‘The Ladders’ – the stepped path through the bouldery shoulder.

Calm conditions on the loch this morning.

Conachcraig 850m, note the bank of cloud out to the East.
