Sleet & Wet Snow

16th March 2025

A bit unexpected but we had fairly low cloud today with sleety wet snow above 900m. Still chilly in the Northerly wind. Not a particularly pleasant day…..

Yesterday’s sunshine has significantly reduced the superficial snow cover on South facing slopes. A very thin covering exists above 800 metres on Northerly aspects. The firmer old snow patches still exist in steeper wind sheltered locations as Braemar Mountain Rescue Teams photos show below.

Not much change expected – Firming up overnight, slowly thawing during the day tomorrow. Looks like milder weather will arrive on Thursday.

Cloud base as low as Loch Vrotachan (750m) at times today.

All revved up with no place to go …. (Thanks Meatloaf)
