Drifting snow.

9th January 2025

It was a pretty wild start to the day. Stronger than expected Northerly winds was shifting a lot of the dry unconsolidated snow around. Accumulations in sheltered areas are becoming quite deep and they are becoming more widespread. Stability is becoming poor, particularly on steep terrain. Fortunately it’s still fairly easy to avoid these areas.

Ski mountaineers will be disappointed with options on the hill, most of the good skiing is still to be found at low levels.

Dog Rogue in the drifting snow. She’s a tough dog but it was a coat on day.

A natural slumped/collapsed cornice.

A view over the middle valley to the Carn Aosda area. Southerly aspects (facing camera) picked up a fair bit of snow overnight and this morning.
