Another Wintery day.

6th January 2025

There has been steady snow flurries both overnight and throughout the day. Accompanied by drifting snow in the strong winds this has led to continued development  of deep drifts forming in lee locations,  making travel through the hills tiresome at times.

Another wild day is expected tomorrow, Monday 6th with lots of drifting expected in the strong winds. This will particularly apply to the North of our boundary, worth reading the North Cairngorms avalanche report if heading into the main Cairngorms.

Dog Rogue above Loch Muick. Generally a cover of thin snow but deeper on footpaths.

Drifting starting to build around burn lines. Smaller watercourses starting to freeze. This was around 700 metres.

Decided to ski today, poor visibility and limited deep snow left options very limited. Still, good to have a shuffle out.

New accumulations were soft and often unstable.
