Significant Thaw

15th December 2024

With temperatures of plus 6 degrees centigrade overnight and through the day, the snow loss has been significant. Yesterday we were using crampons, even at lower elevations. Today a pair of wellies would have been useful at times. Cover is now limited and extremely patchy. Gully lines were broken in Lochnagar. Light rainfall forecast throughout the next period but with the freezing level eventually lowering to around 1500 metres.

The burn lines were starting to rise today and crossing may become problematic. Holding the camera steady in the storm force winds today was also a bit of an issue – Photos are slightly blurry!
