Lochnagar.
29th December 2023
It was a reasonably bright but cold day on Lochnagar. Nice to see a few folk around.
Looking a lot more snowy now with a mix of hard and soft cover on many aspects.
Walk to the col. Trail breakers up front did a good job. A quick melt freeze cycle had left a breakable crust below 900 metres.
Quite a few people around. Deeper accumulations were found around any wind sheltered features.
The South Sector.
A solo mountaineer near the stretcher box. The crag apron not filled in just yet, probably hard work getting to the bottom of the crag.
Walkers passing the top of Central Gully. Generally, Gully tops will require care.
The Main Crag.
RAF Mountain Rescue Team from Leeming were training around Lochnagar. Most aspects have snow on them, wind exposed areas are becoming very firm.
A view over to a snowy Beinn a Bhuird. This photo highlighting the differences in snow cover on different aspects.
