Glas Maol
3rd March 2023
There has been little change in the snowpack due to the settled conditions. It was very firm and icy on North to East aspects above 900 metres, but ultimately satisfying to crunch around with the crampons on.
Some softer snow is still to be found on South-East to South-West aspects. Tomorrow, will be much the same underfoot, but with poor visibility as a developing Arctic Maritime airstream starts to become established. Some light snow showers are expected on the northern periphery of the Southern Cairngorms area, therefore confined to the main Cairngorm massif. Although there will be a little drift in the moderate winds, any accumulations are likely to be isolated and avoidable. The avalanche forecast will be low.
It will become increasingly colder with a welcome return to winter at the start of the week.
