It’s Snowing!
4th April 2026
Happy Easter!
After a beautiful blue sky start to the day, it quickly clouded over with precipitation arriving at 13:30hrs. It’s currently 16:30hrs and snow is starting to settle in Braemar and the web cams are showing snow settling on the A93 at the Glenshee Ski Centre. The snowfall is due to be fairly heavy during the late afternoon but then the freezing level is supposed to spike up to 1250 metres for a short time with the precipitation turning to rain at most levels. The temperatures are showing no signs of rising at the moment and it’s currently minus 3 at 933m. Some drifting will be taking place at the moment, with redistribution becoming heavier as the winds pick up to gale force this evening. Fresh windslab is going to form, especially in the mountains on our forecast area northern boundary as much more snowfall has been predicted for the North Cairngorm forecast area. If the freezing level spike isn’t as pronounced as forecast – we will have more snowfall in the forecast area – and you will have to adjust the avalanche hazard as appropriate to the conditions experienced. Careful route choice required for tomorrow.
