Pea soup.

5th March 2026

A strong Southerly wind without much visibility today.

Mild again, with the thaw very much ongoing. It is forecast to be cooler, which will help slow the rate down. We are also forecasted snow tonight but it’s unlikely to make much of a difference to the general reduction of snow cover. It is still good for walking and skiing above 900 metres.

Very patchy below 900 metres with good cover above this level. Mostly firm and well bonded.

Despite becoming patchy, there are some deep drifts left above 600 metres. A family were playing under this by the road. There are other deeper ones with snow holes still in them.

Carn an Tuirc from roadside. The walk to the snow is getting bigger daily…..but worth it up top.

The snow depth gauge. This on 5th February…..

This on 5th March.
