A windy day.

23rd March 2026

It was a cold and windy day, particularly as the winds strengthened from the South-West in the afternoon. As it has been -3 at 900 metres for most of the night it wasn’t a surprise it was very firm underfoot. Greatest amounts of snow are generally on high plateau areas and in the North to East facing corries.

Due to be mild and wet tonight but it will become colder with light snowfall during Tuesday.

A wander up the Glas Allt Shiel today. The snow cover is patchy although some cover is quite extensive.

Deep patches, particularly in burn lines and around corrie edges. Crossing snow bridges requires caution, feels like crossing crevasses at times!

Looking  past Central Buttress area. Buttresses are black but gullies are hanging in well.

Towards The Red Spout. Although a lot of cornices have fallen, there is still a lot of blocks of snow around the corrie rims still to fall. This will remain a significant hazard during mild periods.

Towards the East side of the Corrie.
