The White Room

18th January 2026

No visibility on Lochnagar today – the cloud base dropped below 700 metres at times today. Despite being a generally Southerly wind, it felt pretty chilly up there. Underfoot conditions were firm first thing with patches of water-ice and snow-ice from below 600 metres. Yesterday’s wet snow has started to consolidate, with cooler temperatures overnight giving it a thin crust. The fluctuating temperature theme will continue through the next 24 hour period with a 750 metre freezing level overnight, followed by a gradual rise up to 1100 metres by mid afternoon.
