The Cloud Cleared!
28th January 2026
Heavy snowfall yesterday and overnight on storm force winds – really serious conditions. Glenshee ski centre reported that they were having to dig their way into their sheds before they could get operations started but they did a great job of getting runs open for the skiers that arrived in a long line after the A93 reopened having being blocked by snowdrifts on both sides of the pass.
Thick cloud first thing and it felt like I was feeling my way around the inside of a ping pong ball, but eventually the cloud cleared to give a sunny afternoon. It wasn’t long before photos started coming our way of a large avalanche on the West aspect of Glas Maol. The debris from the right hand section is reported to have travelled all the way to the valley floor.
After our brief respite today, snowfall will return tonight and continue through tomorrow. The winds won’t be as strong but drifting will occur as the freezing level lowers again. Careful route choice required if you’re heading out…
