Strong winds and drifting.
30th January 2026
Snowfall and high amounts of drifting snow in storm force winds today so only a short hike in snowshoes up towards Meall Odhar.
Unsurprisingly stability continues to be poor with both navigation and safe route choice continuing to be a challenge in poor visibility.
I did notice two small avalanches on a Westerly aspect below 700 metres. If you do see any when out and about please report them via our site, doesn’t matter if you have all the info, it’s useful to know its happened.

The snow gates were closed today. There was a hope to open them but despite all the toys and a lot of hard work by the staff the road was abandoned early afternoon. The storm force winds were filling it in as quickly as the cleared it on the ‘Slide’.
The old Perth ski hut well drifted in. I’m not sure exactly how much snow we got last night but can safely say…..a lot!
Despite the snow amounts I was surprised to find a 2.5+ metre wall has developed across the piste higher up the hill. Difficult to see from above and likely to be the kind of hazard you’ll encounter when travelling through the hills.

This has to be the most snow Glenshee has seen in a good few years ! Long may it continue . Great job reporting as ever in the worst of conditions Scotland can throw at you .
