Heavy drifting – Heavy rain!

11th January 2026

Heavy snowfall, high winds and drifting have affected the area with blocked roads, closed snowgates and challenging access. A pretty dramatic day with continued windslab build up on the mountains with widespread accumulations especially on the Northern area of the forecast region including Beinn A Bhuird and Ben Avon. A period of high instability is likely due to the rising temperatures and heavy rain at summit levels with avalanche activity expected to occur on NW,N,NE aspects, we have therefore issued a rare High Hazard level. It would be expected that after this period of high instability mostly overnight Sunday and early hours Monday that the snowpack would then start to consolidate!

A day for low level activity!
